Cramlington, Northumberland

As part of a wider 1,850 home allocation, this site completes the final sector of Cramlington New Town.

Detailed planning permission for 250 new homes and an access road, alongside outline planning permission for 1,600 homes and a neighbourhood shopping centre, were secured. In addition, ‘reserved matters’ consent for the first 526 plots has also now been obtained.

Bellway has delivered the majority of Cramlington New Town whilst working in collaboration with another developer over numerous decades and in separate phases, originally starting in the 1960s. Our Arcot site forms part of the southwest quarter of Cramlington.

As a former quarry site and coal mining area, we had to ensure cost-effective design solutions were employed to remediate the site whilst maximising its development potential. We also had to deal with high-voltage power lines which crossed the site, liaising carefully with the District Network Operator to protect the continuity of their use.

This comprehensive and sustainable urban extension, completing Cramlington New Town, was delivered through close collaboration with our development partners and the Local Authority.
