Bellway secures approval to build 200 new homes in Skellow

Bellway has secured planning permission to build 200 homes in the South Yorkshire village of Skellow.

The development will be constructed on a 20-acre site off Crabgate Lane, with work due to start before the summer.

The proposals, which have been developed by Bellway Strategic Land in conjunction with Bellway’s Yorkshire division, had been approved in principle by City of Doncaster Council’s planning committee in February, subject to the completion of a legal agreement to secure funding towards local services and infrastructure.

That agreement, which has now been signed, will see Bellway provide £63,461 towards local bus services, £31,358 to upgrade two bus stops, and £50,000 towards environmental improvements along the River Skell.

The development, which will be known as Cromwell Grange, will comprise a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties with a central area of public open space including a children’s play area.

There will be 160 properties for private sale and 40 affordable homes for low-cost rent or shared ownership, including two-bedroom bungalows and maisonettes.

Mark Jones, Head of Planning for Bellway’s Yorkshire division, said:

“The completion of the legal agreement for this development not only secures funding for vital local services but also marks an important step towards construction work starting on these much-needed new private and affordable homes for the area.
“This includes the provision of two-bedroom bungalows and ground-floor maisonettes to meet the specific need for wheelchair accessible properties, while a further 130 houses have been designed to be more accessible and adaptable to suit people’s changing needs throughout their lifetimes.
“In line with our company-wide commitment to putting people and the planet first, the homes will be built to a high level of energy efficiency, with solar PV panels and smart thermostats, while electric vehicle charging points will be provided for all plots. The central area of public open space will include the planting of more than 200 trees, wildflower meadow and wetland planting to enable nature to thrive.
“We look forward to commencing work on site later this year and to welcoming residents into the first completed properties at Cromwell Grange early next year.”
