The development will generate investment of more than £400,000 in local infrastructure and services. It will also provide green open space on the 13.7-acre site which borders the M6. Thirty per cent of the homes will be designated as affordable housing.
Bellway Strategic Land first brought forward the plans in 2021 and Lancaster City Council gave its agreement in principle in 2023. Since then, discussions have been ongoing to finalise details including the number of homes and required financial contributions.
The council’s planning committee met on Monday 20 April and gave its backing to the revised proposals.
Sebastian Burrow, Strategic Land Director for the North West at Bellway Strategic Land, said:
“This development will extend an existing residential area which sits in the village of Quernmore and within the city boundaries.
“The planning process has required us to work closely with the local authority to ensure the homes would meet the needs of people living in the area. This included planning the number of affordable homes required and determining the size and type of housing that would be most suitable.
“The development will bring benefits to the wider community including job creation, improving biodiversity and wildlife habitats, along with investment in roundabout upgrades, sustainable travel and contributions towards improving green open spaces in the local area.”
